Why Mr. Bush Doesn't Teach Kindergarten . . . .

I teach on the collegiate level, and while some days SEEM like I'm teaching kindergarten, I can usually leave the classroom "unattended" for a few minutes and expect to see students working when I return.

Kindergarten classes---not so much! And even on the collegiate level, go away often enough, and stay away long enough, and . . . . .

The Bush/Cheney Republicans, ignoring the lessons of the Herbert Hoover administration, have "left the classroom" regarding financial institutions (mortgage loans, investment banking, etc.) and are now aghast that the class has erupted into chaos. Any teacher could have told you that was gonna happen!!!

So now, after the Bush Administration has "maxed out the credit cards" on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, we now must collectively mortgage the house as well.

I'm not for a minute suggesting that the federal government did not have to act; I'm critical of a myopic administration whose "strategic planning" seems to reduce to "ignore it and maybe it'll go away." (Anyone remember a little storm called Katrina??)

Many of us are closing our eyes tightly, waiting till January 20th, when this administration will "go away."
